Links and Minifeatures 10 09 Tuesday

| | Comments (0)

To my readers: The number of 404 errors is falling like a rock, so I think I've got most of the pages redirected. I'm still checking the error logs once or twice a day, but there were only a couple such errors yesterday, not counting the bots that were trying to send comment or trackback spam.

I have verified that Type Key and Movable Type comments are working now, so if you've got something to say, please do so. Creating a Type Key identity should allow you to comment a lot of other places, as well - every Movable Type site that allows comments, at a minimum. If you've already got one, let me know if it doesn't work, but the one I've had for over two years works fine.

To the owners of other websites: I did away with automated trackbacks due to the levels of spam. But that doesn't mean I won't put one in manually if you say more about the same subject. Email me the URL of your post and request me to put in a trackback manually. You do have to link the post you'd like a trackback on, as is standard courtesy. And of course, if your page is just spam, don't bother. The idea is trackbacks share traffic because both of us believe that the other's article is worth reading.

September traffic fell off a cliff, as once I had to point the domain at the new host, all of my links and URLs needed to be repaired. Only 24,674 visits, 94,516 Page views. October 2005 was the last time I had totals that low. I also had 308,000 "404" errors in September. Running totals: 2,062,996 visits, 7,172,933 page views.

Now that most of the links are fixed and pages redirected, October's stats are twice September's, and climbing, one hopes back to where things were before. There is not a day in October that hasn't beaten the best day of September for traffic. 404 errors have fallen 90% thus far, and there usually aren't more than a very few pages that need to be fixed when I check the error logs. Please let me know if you hit one, though. I'll not only email you the corrected URL, I'll fix it so the next person gets sent there in the first place.

Here we go again, same as the last time: Michelle Malkin reports on Barbara Boxer, who wants Immigration to not enforce the law, so that the census can count all of the illegal immigrants, so that states with more illegal aliens can increase their representation in Congress.

You can't make stuff like this up.

Bill Hobbs with more

This is trying to expand liability a lot farther than there is wrongdoing, in the name of generating more deep pockets for class action lawyers to sue.

One hopes the Supreme Court is taking it up to issue a more binding decision than the current Appellate ruling. Because if they side with expanding liability, watch American corporations stampede to relocate overseas.
